Seal integrity, shelf life, and on-pack coding in flexible food packaging: what the research shows, measured against Nisan's own food lidding lines.
The seal is the critical control point
In flexible food packaging, the weakest point is usually the seal, not the material. A review of heat-sealed flexible food packages states that the seal area is the most problematic part for controlling moisture and gas ingress and preserving product quality, and that even small leakages can reduce shelf life by changing the composition of headspace gases and moisture content.¹
Nisan's food lidding (aluminium lids, AluPet rolls, and paper-foil laminate) is built around that reality, providing barrier protection against moisture, oxygen, and light.
How heat sealing works
Heat sealing is one of the most widely used methods in flexible packaging, and the same review describes it as achieved through a combination of temperature, pressure and time that melts and fuses the sealant layer; seal quality is assessed indirectly through hot-tack, T-peel and leak-detection tests.¹

A reliable seal, with easy opening
A good seal has to balance competing goals. The review notes that packaging design must weigh reducing material use, producing easy-to-open packs, and lowering sealing time, objectives that can pull against seal strength.¹
Nisan addresses this on its lids through embossing patterns that support smooth peelability while preserving sealing strength and barrier performance.
On-pack information and traceability
Beyond the seal, the printed surface increasingly carries information. A review of food-packaging QR codes notes that traditional paper labels, limited by size, can no longer transmit large amounts of information, whereas QR codes connect physical food to digital information with large data storage and quick access, performing well in traceability, quality evaluation, and anti-counterfeiting.²
